I expect you’ve heard it already, but just in case you haven’t:   The Michigan State Medical Society Alliance Annual Session will be held May 1 and 2 at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, 187 Monroe Ave. NW, Grand Rapids.  That’s us deciding the future of our organization.  You are the most important part of the team.  If you have paid your state Alliance dues, you can attend and vote at the Annual Session.  We no longer have “delegates”.  You are it.  Just register, attend, and vote.   This is your opportunity to decide where we are going.

The Annual Session is meeting at the same time and place as the Michigan State Medical Society House of Delegates.  So be sure to bring your spouse.  In addition to the Annual Session, there are lots of things for you and your spouse to do in Grand Rapids.  Many are within walking distance of the hotel:  Gerald R. Ford Museum, Grand Rapids Public Museum, the DeVos Performance Hall, SHOPPING, and lots of nifty restaurants and breweries.  Check outwww.experiencegr.com  for things to do.

On Friday afternoon we will be carpooling to the Frederik Meijer Sculpture Garden.  The first group will leave the hotel at one pm (they have a nice restaurant) or you can come over later and still enjoy the sculptures.  Karin Maupin will be our Sculpture Garden logistics coordinator.  The $12 admission price includes an indoor docent tour and outdoor tram tour.  Things should be budding out by May 1st and the Splendors of Shiga: Treasures from Japan special exhibit will be showing.

Friday evening we will check out Grand Rapids.  Join us at the reception at the Sundance Restaurant at 151 Ottawa Avenue sponsored from 6 to 8 pm.  It is sponsored by the Ottawa County Medical Society.  It is within walking distance so we can go as a group, but we do need to know how many are going so we will be sure to have enough food.  (Always my greatest fear:  running out of food!)   After 8 pm you will have time to check out the breweries, the wine bars, and the restaurants on your own.  The Opera “Tosca” will be at DeVos Performance Hall Friday and Saturday evenings.  Let me know if you are interested and we can get tickets together.  Tickets start at $41 and the curtain rises at 7:30.

On Saturday, May 2nd, Thousand Oaks Golf Club, 4100 Thousand Oaks Drive, will give our spouses tee times between 10 and noon.  Your spouse can receive a reduced rate of $62 for 18 holes including cart.  Let me know and we will reserve for you.

Room reservations can be made by calling the Amway Grand Reservation line at (800) 253-3590 and mention you are with the 2015 Michigan State Medial Society House of Delegates.  Rooms are $150 and parking is extra.  Deadline is March 31.

The Michigan State Medical Society has invited us to attend the MSMS President’s Inauguration Dinner Saturday evening.  You can register on their websitewww.msms.org/hod. Be sure to use the ALLIANCE registration form.  Tickets for the dinner are $100.

If your county hasn’t applied for MSMSA the $250 health promotions grant forany health project done during the 2014-2015 fiscal year or the $500 grant for an Immunization related projectfor this fiscal year only, this is your last opportunity.   The Executive Committee meets at 5:30 pm May 1st.  If you want your application considered I need it before then.  The applications are found under the County Alliances tab.   You can email (nancyjkf@yahoo.com) or fax (616-335-5060) it to me.

Looking forward to seeing you and hearing your voice May 1 and 2 in Grand Rapids.
Keep on walking,
