ALLIANCE PRESIDENTIAL GAVEL
In 1951, on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Woman’s Auxiliary to the Michigan State Medical Society, the fact that President Mrs. O.D. Stryker, formerly of Fremont, was the incumbent president from Macomb County, prompted the gift of the presidential gavel.
Dr. William LeFevre had, for some time, been making and presenting a gavel to the current president of the Muskegon County Medical Society (of which he was a member) for their term in office.
Knowing that Mrs. Stryker had been instrumental in forming the Woman’s Auxiliary to the Muskegon County Medical Society in 1948, and was now serving as President of the Woman’s Auxiliary to the Michigan State Medical Society, he thought it would be proper to present her with one of his “traditional” gavels. It was made of rosewood, with a silver band, and presented in its own handmade box. It remains today at the office of the Michigan State Medical Society where it is used yearly by each president at board meetings and the Annual Session.
