Activate Your Political Voice: Join MDPAC!
What is MDPAC?
Michigan Doctor’s Political Action Committee (MDPAC) is the political arm of the Michigan State Medical Society. We are a bipartisan political action committee made up of members of the MSMS who are interested in making a positive contribution to the medical profession through the political process. MDPAC supports pro-medicine candidates running for the Michigan state legislature or statewide office.
Why should you join?
By contributing to MDPAC, you will substantially enhance the MSMS advocacy efforts. With an ever changing political landscape, a well-funded unified voice is necessary to make sure a promedicine message is heard. By joining with other physicians and alliance members, you create a constituency that represents your professional needs and concerns. Whether the issue is tort reform legislation, scope of practice or the many other issues on the medical agenda, political and legislative action is where it all begins.
MDPAC aims to bring grassroots involvement through organized medicine in Michigan to a whole new level. Following are ways that MDPAC can connect physicians, their spouses, medical students, and medical group managers with opportunities to make themselves heard:
- Contribute – When single financial contributions are combined with those of other individuals, MDPAC funds increase the leverage of organized medicine’s position to protect patients’ rights and to preserve the integrity of the medical profession.
- Engage – To ensure that medicine’s voice is heard throughout the halls of government, members must get involved by participating in MDPAC events and contacting their lawmakers.
- Unite – As individuals, physicians already make a difference. United, they can affect even more change in their community, in government, and in their profession.
- Lead – In order to influence leaders at all levels, physicians and friends of medicine must become leaders themselves. Joining MDPAC is an important step toward that leadership.
Doctor of the Day
Your County Alliance can Drive Legislation as ‘Doctor of the Day’ Through the MSMS-Michigan Doctors’ Political Action Committee (MDPAC) “Doctor of the Day” program, physicians, Alliance members, medical students, and medical group managers have the opportunity to spend a day in Lansing, meet with their lawmakers, experience the legislative process firsthand, and drive the MSMS Legislative Agenda.
The program provides an opportunity for participants to come to Lansing and experience the legislative process in action by meeting their lawmakers to discuss health policy issues, observing the legislative session at the State Capitol Building, and attending pertinent committee meetings.
“Doctor of the Day” visits, which typically last all day and include lunch, may be scheduled on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays during the legislative session. MSMS will make all arrangements and provide participants with necessary materials.
